Advection schemes for use in global chemistry models

Two of the advection schemes from Petersen et al. (1998), the reduced-grid schemes Split-rg and Mol-rg, can be downloaded from this site.

The new advection schemes should be used in high-resolution global simulations only (i.e., at least 4x5 degrees and 30 vertical layers), since at lower resolutions the numerical diffusivity, which is larger than that of for instance the Slopes and Second Moments schemes, significantly affects the accuracy of the results.

Split-rg.f (version 1.1) contains the code for the Split-rg advection scheme.

Mol-rg.f (version 1.1) contains the code for the Mol-rg advection scheme.
